World War II Veteran Second Lieutenant Madison Manchester, U.S. Army, 34, was killed in action a day after the landings in the Admiralty Islands - part of Operation BREWER. Madison made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the 592nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment.
Son of Albert Clark & Georgianna A. DeWolf (nee Jordan) Manchester, Madison married Alice Marjorie Read in JUN 1936. He was the father of Albert Read Manchester (1939 - 2020) & Madison Jordon Manchester, Jr (1942 - 1946).
Madison attended Middlebury College, where he graduated in 1936, and was a brother of the Vermont Beta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) Fraternity.
In OCT 1940, he was living with his wife & son in Queens, NY when he registered for the WWII draft, and was living in NY & working in the advertising department of American Airlines when he joined the Army in 1942. Late that same year, Madison deployed to the South Pacific Theater of Operations, and saw action in New Guinea prior to Operation BREWER.
