Former Jackson Twp. Resident, Perry Payne Dies at Age of 84

Perry (Garth) Payne, 84, of Preston, Minn., formerly of Jackson Twp., died at 3 a.m. Saturday at the Preston Care Center following a three-month illness.

A retired farmer, Mr. Perry was born Nov. 23, 1902 in Wells County to C. A. and Lula Belle Mounsey Payne. His marriage to Verda Fern Shadle, who survives, took place Sept. 12, 1825 at Van Buren.

In addition to the wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Theresa) Thompson of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sons, Verlis Payne of Chester, Iowa, and Arden Payne of Memphis, Mo., eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the H. Brown & Son Funeral Home at Warren, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Stevan Haiflich will officiate, and burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Warren.
