He was survived by children William, Christian, Charles, Jacob, Timothy, Wilson and Edward Carter, Lillie Lookinbill, Anna Shepherd, Charlotte Rowe, Nellie Rahn and Mary Stipp, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and siblings Edward Carter and Kate Rice.
Charles moved to Molers Cross Roads with his parents as a boy. He remained there the rest of his life and made his living as a farmer. His death was quite sudden, his obituary stating that "he had been in apparent good health earlier in the day and had driven his automobile during the afternoon."
