Dr. Hereford's Funeral

The funeral of Dr. R. H. Hereford took place at Easton Monday and was very largely attended, many persons going out from this city. The services were held at Kerne's Chapel, and were very impressive. The remarks of Rev. Miller were timely and appropriate. The Doctor was one of the best known and most highly esteemed gentlemen in this section and had been a resident for many years.

The Weekly Kansas Chief (Troy, Kansas), Thursday, 19 May 1881
Dr. R. H. Hereford, whose death, May 7th, we spoke of last week, died of typhoid fever, at his home in Easton, Mo. We first became acquainted with him about the year 1852, at Maysville, Mo., where he commenced the practice of medicine. In 1854 or ‘55, he came to Doniphan County, marrying Amanda J. Tracy, daughter of John Tracy, then living on Rock Creek, near Brenner Station. The Dr. was on of the first physicians of Doniphan; practiced here for nearly ten years, and rode night and day. In 1862 or ‘63 he, with his family, moved to Easton, Mo., where he continued to practice until his death. He leaves a wife and seven children–two daughters, both married, and five boys. The Dr. was a good physician, and will be sadly missed in the country about where he has so long been living. His old Doniphan County friends will miss him. Often do they talk of him, as being the good Samaritan in the early settlement of Doniphan County. He was about 48 years old. His brother, Al. Hereford, died but a few weeks ago.
