DORSIE FRANKLIN
1922 - 2010

Dorsie D. Franklin of West Liberty, KY., passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Morgan County ARH, West Liberty, KY., at the age of 88 years and 29 days.

He was born on Wednesday, July 12, 1922, in Magoffin County, KY, a son of the late Zenus and Anna Lykins Franklin.

At an early age of 16, Dorsie volunteered for the Civilian Conservation Corp (normally referred to as CCC or the Three C's). In 1941 he was drafted to serve in the US Army and served in Germany, France, and England serving in the Medical Detachment Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. When receiving an Honorable Discharge from the service on December 21, 1945, Dorsie decided on attending Electrical School in Chicago, IL. Later Dorsie along with his wife, Marie, attended Mayo Vocational School in Paintsville, KY. Dorsie and Marie were married on October 21, 1950 and were married 57 years until Marie's passing in 2007. After receiving a diploma from Mayo Vocational School, Dorsie and Marie settled in Morgan County to begin their own business. Franklin's Electric, a locally owned business, which operated for 39 years from 1959 until 1998 serving several counties. Dorsie instilled the same dedication to his customers as he did while serving our country; when called upon, whatever hour, Dorsie would come to deliver appliances or repairs. On August 12, 2002, Dorsie was awarded a High School Diploma as an Honorably Discharged Veteran of World War II. Dorsie also enjoyed working and hunting on his farm at Lacy Creek in Morgan County. With much patriotism, pride, honor, and love for his country, Dorsie always attended the July 4th festivities on Main Street, rode the Veterans' float in the Sorghum Festival parade, and attended the Morgan County Veterans Day Services. Marie and Dorsie enjoyed their pets, Okie Poe and Gi-Gi and for the love of their country enjoyed traveling wanting to see it all. Traveling together, Dorsie and Marie cruised to Bermuda and visited every state except for Alaska and Alabama. As said before, Dorsie passed from his life loving his country as a true Veteran would - being true to his duties and life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Henry Franklin; one sister, Mae Trusty; one brother, Toral Franklin; and infant twin brother and sister, Wilma and Willie Franklin.
