Mr. Hart brought the first traffic stoplight to downtown at Market and Santa Clara Street in San Jose, California, so pedestrians would have the right of way to cross the busy streets.
He donated his father's house at Naglee and The Alameda to the YMCA. He was also a past president of the San Jose Chamber of Commerce, and a supporter of St. Elizabeth's Day Home, San Jose Symphony, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Santa Clara Youth Center. He was also active with Rotary, Elks and the Native Sons of the Golden West.

∼Alexander (Alex)Joseph Hart Jr., resident of Saratoga, our beloved father, poppi, uncle, cousin and dear friend, passed away on Sunday, August 8th, 2010. His father Alex J. and mother Nettie Brooke Hart, sisters, Jeanette, Miriam, Aleese and brother Brooke precede him in death. He leaves behind sons Brooke (Marcia), A. J. (Linda), Theodore (Vicki), treasured grandchildren, Victoria, Alex (Sara), Aaron (Yolande), Elizabeth (Emilio), Dexter, Alexandra and Vanessa, eleven great grandchildren, nephews, a niece, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. A service will be Friday, August 27 at 5:30pm, at Oak Hill Funeral Home's Chapel of Roses; and on Saturday, August 28, a Celebration of Life at 11:30am at Los Gatos Lodge for close friends and family. The family requests that remembrances be made in Alex's name to the YMCA, 1717 The Alameda, San Jose, CA 95126 or to your favorite charity.
