RANDOLPH, JOSEPH F.
Madisonville
Was born in Madison County, Texas, on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1857; attended country schools, and graduated from Baylor University in 1877. His parents were Mansel and Frances Adeline Randolph. He was left an orphan at five years of age, his parents dying within ten days of one another. He educated himself from his own earnings. His father was an officer in the Confederate army and was relieved from active service in the field on account of sickness from which he afterwards died. A younger brother died in 1885 while County attorney of Walker County, Texas. Another younger brother is living at Quanah, Texas, engaged in farming.
Mr. Randolph is related by lineage to the famous John Randolph of Roanoke. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1879, since which time he has been actively and successfully engaged in the practice of his profession at Madisonville in this state. He was elected County attorney of Madison County for three successive terms, resigned the office during his third term, was an elector from the First Congressional district on the Democratic ticket in 1892, and in 1896 was elected to the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature from the Fifty-sixth district, composed of the counties of Madison and Leon.
He has attended various County, district, and state conventions and has often stumped the district in which he resides in the defense of Democratic principles and policies and in the interest of Democratic nominees He has been twice married. His first wife's maiden name was Miss Mary Ida Camp, and that of his second, and present wife Miss Cora W. Westmoreland. His first marriage occurred at Madisonville, Texas, and his second at Midway, Madison County, Texas. Two children were born to him by his first wife, Thos. Mansel and Joseph Tyler, and three by his second marriage, William Schilon, Lewis Bryan and Maggie Ella Randolph. Mr. Randolph is a member of the Masonic fraternity. He is making an able and efficient Representative and is considered one of the best constitutional lawyers in the House. He is a member of the following committees: Judiciary No. 1, on which he has the second place, State Affairs, Penitentiaries and County Governments and County Finances.
