Organized Crime Figure. He was an Italian-born American, who was a valued advisor of Al Capone in the Chicago organize crime dealings of the 1920s. During the Prohibition Era, he owned a grocery business that supplied sugar for illegal alcohol stills. In 1925 he became president of the Chicago chapter of the Unione Siciliana, which was a community and political organization of immigrants. He became Capone's consigliere after Johnny Torrio retired in 1927. Lombardo died after being gunned down. His bodyguard Joseph Ferrara was with him and was shot but recuperated. In retaliation of his death, Capone ordered the attacks of the Valentine's Day massacre.
