My Dad. He was born in Jersey City, NJ .Attended Lincoln HS in Jersey City where he lettered in track. Was a United States Marine serving in the Korean War where he also contracted yellow fever. He served with the men of the 146 Honor Platoon, Second Recruit Battalion-Parris Island. He was a tank leader, marksman, and a sharpshooter. He received 1st award Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with 4 stars, United Nations Ribbon, and Combat Action Medal. He was also in the Naval Reserve. He was a staff sergeant when he was discharged 4 years later. He met his future wife Rita when they were 13 and 15 working at a telephone company. They were married in 1952 at St. Bridget's church in Jersey City, NJ.They lived in Kearny before moving to Sayreville in 1961. He worked on the Gemini and Mercury space parts while at RCA in Harrison, where he worked for almost 20 years. Beloved father of Maureen born 1953, Richard Joseph born and died 1956, Richard John born and died 1957, Colleen born 1960, and Doreen born 1965. He and Rita were married for 49 years before she passed away in her sleep April 2001.He passed away suddenly in his sleep Christmas morning 2008. I tried calling him that morning but could not get him. I thought he probably was at the cemetery visiting my Mom's grave. My younger sister called me at noon and told me that my older sister found him unresponsive on the couch. He leaves behind his 3 daughters who miss their dad terribly and 7 grandchildren Joseph Orlando, Pilar Rita, Eileen Alanna, Colette Joy, Richard Kevin, Katy Rita, and Lacy Jo. CAUSE OF DEATH: PROBABLE STROKE SECONDARY TO A-FIB. NOTE: A special thanks to my sister Doreen for the added info for Daddy's memorial.
