Marsh was an Iowa farmer; he married Maria Dawson 07 Feb 1872 in Clinton County, Iowa. He and Maria came to California after the 1910 census.

Marcellus Bartlett, a resident of California for the last nine years, passed away at his residence, 1295 North Raymond avenue, yesterday afternoon at the age of 78 years. Mrs. Maria Bartlett, and one son, Roy F. Bartlett, both of Pasadena, and four daughters, Mrs. Homer Thompson, Three Forks, Mont; Mrs. W.B. Empey, Junction City, Ore.; Mrs. Ray Mackey, Ipswich, S.D. and Miss Carrie M. Bartlett, Futsing, China survive. He was a member of the Washington Street Methodist Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be announced later from the C. Hal Reynolds & John W. Eberle Mortuary.
