A tragic death as a result of her clothes catching on fire after falling asleep in front of an open fire while reading.
She was named for her father's first wife Sarah Oliver. She was nineteen years of age at her death.

Sacred to the memory of
SARAH OLIVER BIRD,
daughter of Daniel and Behetland Bird
who was born in Edgefield South Carolina
on the 19th. of April A.D. 1831
and died near Monticello Florida
on the 18th. of June A.D. 1850.

Calmly she drank of the bitter cup given,
Meekly she bowed 'neath the chastening rod.
Faith ope'd a glorious pathway to Heaven,
And love led her spirit triumphant to God.

She has passed from our sight like the rose clouds,
She has faded away like a rainbow of light.
A star from our earth has arisen in Heaven
and left us enveloped in darkness and night.
