BETHALTO - Gustav "Gus" H. Cycholl, age 93, went to be with the Lord at 10:32 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

Gus was born on January 27, 1917 in Springfield, IL, son of the late Adam & Emma (Bojarzin) Cycholl.

He married Lorna N. Cycholl on May 22, 1948 in Springfield at St. John's Lutheran Church; she passed away on November 15, 2000.

Gus was served his country in the Army during WWII and also was in the reserves during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for the U.S. Postal Services for 5 years and then became a tax examiner for the IRS where he worked for 31years retiring in 1976. He was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Bethalto since 1956 and their men's club, a life member of the Disabled Vets in Springfield, IL, Chapter #15 and the Bethalto Rotary Club for 16 years serving as a past secretary. He kept the books for the Bethalto Public Library for 13 years and held the secretary position at the local bowling leagues. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Helen Tengler of Springfield, IL and several loving nieces, nephews and multiple friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; loving daughter, Rita Cycholl who passed away March of 1966 and a four brothers, Wm, Fred, Walter and Emil Cycholl.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Visitation will continue from 9:00 am until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, with Pastor Dan Decker and Pastor Mark Hofferber officiating.

Graveside services will take place at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield IL.

Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran School and or the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, United in Missions.
