Betty was born in Key West, Fla., and moved to St. Augustine at the age of 4. She worked for Marineland for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home (385 S.R. 207) with officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Leon Smith Sr., and a sister, Belinda DeVoe.
She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Elizabeth Smith of St. Augustine; a son, Leon Smith, his wife, Shannon, and their children, Lil' Leon, Drew, Cassie, Chad, Taylor, Hosston, Trevor and Travis; a son, Wayne Smith, his wife, Betty, and their children, William, Nicole, Kari and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Gatlin Smith and soon to arrive Jade Smith; a sister, Bobbie Hall; and brothers, Ralph Ortagus and Rusty Ortagus.
She is also survived by her dog and faithful companion, Shorty.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
