Daughter of Frank Adolph Bernstorff, PhD., Professor Emeritus of the German Department of Northwestern University and Lilian Clara Bergold Bernstorff, PhD, educator and author of "Abraham Lincoln Centennial", published 1908 and still in print. She was the sister of Margaret, Elaine and Frank, all unmarried.
Anita was the last of three siblings to die in the family home and as each died the others continued to live there with the dead bodies. In November 2008 the last surviving sibling was found living at the home at age 90 and removed to an elderly care facility. The brother and two sisters were determined to have died of natural causes over a 25-30 year period.
She was 98 at the time of her death.
