In November of 1983, Marsalee Nicholas, a senior attending classes at the University of California in Santa Barbara, received a call from a jealous ex-boyfriend saying he was going to kill himself. She rushed over to his house, where he shot her the moment she walked through the door, killing her instantly. The ex-boyfriend, Kerry M. Conley, was given 17-years-to-life. Her death prompted her family, along with the families of Sharon Tate and Dominique Dunne, to co-found Justice For Homicide Victims. On November 4th, 2008, California voters passed Proposition 9, the Victim's Bill of Rights Act, known as "Marsy's Law".
