4th child and 2nd oldest son born to Seaborn M. and Sidney S. (Burdette) Denson. After his early education, he attended Falkville Normal College. He then took a business course at Massey Business College in Birmingham AL which enabled him to work as a court stenographer. After attending a summer law class at the Law School of the University of Alabama, he passed the State Bar examination and was admitted to law practice in March 1910. In September 1916 he was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Alabama National Guard Cavaly and was mustered into Federal Service. He was promoted to the rank of captain, Signal Corps, US Army in March 1918 and was honorably discharged at Langley Field, Virginia in December 1918. He served as an Alabama state senator in 1915 when he resided at Eutah, in Greene County AL, where he also practiced law. He married (1) Josie Gertrude Shelton on 8 November 1910 by whom a child born but died on February 19, 1913 in Greene County AL (Josie had died in childbirth a few months earlier); (2) Ruth Olivia Shelton (sister of Josie Shelton) on June 26, 1915 (she objected to his military career and their marriage was dissolved); (3) Edna (last name and date of marriage unknown), with whom he had a daughter named Jacqueline, born around 1921; and (4) Elizabeth "Bettie" Viola Graves in 1930 by whom he has three sons: James Edward Denson (born July 31, 1931, died May 25, 2013), William Alonzo Denson (born May 22, 1933, died in 1975), and Thomas Jackson Denson) born March 31, 1935, died in 1974). In the late 1920s he worked for the War Department in Washington DC where he met his 4th wife. In 1942 he suffered a stroke and died ten year later at the Bethesda Naval Hospital (Walter Reed Medical Center) in Bethesda, Maryland at the age of 68. He was affectionately called Uncle "Toss" by his nieces and nephews. His parents and following siblings are also buried at Pisgah Cemetery: Ida (Denson) McCoy, Seaborn I. Denson, and Robert E. Denson.
