WELLS RIVER - Doris Taylor Avery Hart, 75, died Saturday evening, September 4, 2010, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after suffering a heart attack. She was born June 11, 1935, in Rochester, Vt., the daughter of Harold E. and Phyllis (Coburn) Taylor. She attended school in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. September 24, 1953, she married Duane Avery in Sharon, Vt. They lived all their married lives in Strafford, Vt. Mr. Avery died in 1980. She stayed in Strafford until 2006, when she moved to Wells River, Vt. Later, she married William Hart. Mr. Hart died in August 2009. Along with providing a loving home for her husband and their seven children, Doris also found time to work as a caregiver for countless people throughout the Upper Valley area. Even in her later years when she was vacationing in Florida, she would often find someone who wanted her help caring for a loved one. During her stay in Florida, she also held a job at a chocolate factory that she really enjoyed. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Strafford Ladies Aid and the Strafford PTA.

Doris was a warm and gentle lady, a tireless worker and wonderful friend. But, most of all, she was an incredible mother. Though she had many interests and hobbies, her greatest love was for her children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Luke Avery of Bozeman, Mont., John Avery of Dallas, Texas, and Matthew Avery and his wife Holly of East Thetford, Vt.; three daughters, Gina Boyd and her husband Steve of Vershire, Vt., Jane Avery Rossi and her husband Lou of Columbus, N.C., and Anne Avery Hill and her husband Blayne of West Fairlee, Vt.; four stepchildren, Robin Edwards, Randy Hart, Ron Hart, Rhonda Hart; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Taylor of Stockbridge, Vt., Harold Taylor of West Lebanon, N.H., and Carl Taylor of East Randolph, Vt.; a sister, Shirley Elliott of Williston, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Mark Avery, who died in 1980 and her two brothers, Randal Taylor and Raymond Taylor.

A memorial service will be held Thursday morning, September 9, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Strafford. Burial will follow in the Strafford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 37 Elmwood Ave., Burlington, VT 05401.

Arrangements are under the supervision of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt., (802) 889-3300.
