Christian was born in Mecklenburg, Germany. On November 11, 1859, he married Magdalena Bentine and the next year he and his new bride immigrated to the U.S. After a few years in the state of New York, they went to Wisconsin and then to Floyd County, Iowa. Christian and Magdalene had 11 children-- five sons and six daughters. his wife died in 1884. Then in 1891 he married a widow Conradine Duesenberg. She died in 1918 and Christian in 1923 in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa. Conradine is buried in the Duesenberg family plot in the Flood Creek Cemetery in Ulster Township, Floyd County, Iowa.
