The daughter of Charles and Vollie Mae Stroud Hudson. After graduating from Harding Academy, a private high school in Searcy, Mrs. Downs later attended Southwest Texas University in San Marcos during the World War II years but received both her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Downs. She attended Pine Street Church of Christ in Arkadelphia. Mrs. Downs is survived by her son, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. A brother, Clyde Hudson, preceded Mrs. Downs in death several years ago. A memorial service was at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home, Arkadelphia, AR. with burial at Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora, Mo.
