Death of Peter William Woodlief
This well known citizen died yesterday
afternoon from general debility, after a
long but almost painless illness. His age
was 74 years and 8 months. he had been a
resident of this city for the past fifty years.
His birth place was Smoky-Ordinary, Bruns-
ville (sic) county, Va. He came thence to New
Orleans, while yet a young man, and en-
gaged in the dry goods business. He was
first a member of the firm of West, Oliver
& Woodlief, and afterwards established the
house of Woodlief & Duverier. In 1860 he
was the junior partner in the firm of Legen-
dre & Woodlief, which continued up to the
war. In his younger days he had been a
leading merchant in his line. His later
years were not propered (sic) by fortune, but he continued on in active life as of old -- genial
and kind to all. To his stricken ones are
tendered our sympathy in their bereavement.

WOODLIEF -- On Tuesday evening, March
13, 1883, at 5:30 o'clock. P.W. WOODLIEF,Sr., aged 74 years and 8 months, a native of Virginia and a resident of this city for over fifty years.
His friends and acquaintances, also the relatives and friends of his son, Henry L. Woodlief, are respectfully requested to attend his funeral, which will take place from his son's residence,129 St. Andrew street, between Annunciation and Chippewa streets. This (Wednesday) Evening, at 4 o'clock.
