A man who was shot in the head by his father-in-law on Wednesday died Saturday from wounds suffered in the shooting.

Richard E. Wade Jr., 25, 604 W. Centennial Ave., had been on total life support at Ball Hospital since the shooting and had never regained consciousness. Wade's father-in-law, John R. Case, 42, 204 Pleasant Drive, Yorktown, has cooperated with police in the investigation, and told them he shot Wade in the head during a confrontation in Wade's home. Case told police he had been worried for some time about problems between his daughter and Wade. Mr. Case's daughter, Dixie Wade, is due to have a baby in one month, but has developed complications in her pregnancy and is in Ball Hospital. Case blamed Wade for his daughter's hospitalization, police said.

Case told police he didn't mean to shoot Wade, but had intended to use the .22 caliber revolver to threaten him. He said he didn't remember pulling the trigger but saw the blood on Wade's face and saw him fall to the floor. Case told detective Sgt. Mike Brumback he went to the house to talk to Wade, not to shoot him.

A native of Muncie, Mr. Wade lived in Yorktown and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1974, where he had been active in sports. He later played with various independent ball teams. He was employed for three years as a store auditor at Marsh Warehouse, Yorktown. Mr. Wade was a member of Forest Church of the Nazarene, Yorktown.

Surviving are his wife, Dixie; a son, Richard E. Wade III; his father, Richard E. Wade; his mother, Mrs. Annabel Wade, Yorktown; two sisters, Mrs. Eric (Jackie) Clevenger, Muncie, and Faith N. Wade, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Moore, Daleville, and Mrs. Esther Wade, Yorktown.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Parson Mortuary by Rev. Dennis DeLong. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.
