Karns was a minister in the Central Pennsylvania Conference and Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served Clearville, Bedford Co., Pennsylvania 1954-1956 - Austin, Potter Co., Pennsylvania 1957-1958 - Derrick City, McKean Co., Pennsylvania and Limestone, Cattaraugus Co., Olean District, New York 1959-1961. He was located in 1962. He served in the US Army during World War II - June 13, 1946-June 9, 1949.
