Scientist. Nobel Prize Winner (Physics, 1951). Taught by Sir Horace Lamb, later a colleague of Peter Kapitsa and Lord Rutherford in the Cavendish Laboratories. A member of the Tizard Mission to the Us in 1940 and contributed ot the Manhattan Project. Member of UK Atomic Energy Authority 1954-1959. He was made a CBE in 1944, knighted in 1948, and was created Knight Commander of the Bath in 1953. (bio by: David Conway)
