Scientist. The 3rd son of naturalist Charles Darwin, he became a leading 19th century botanist, specializing in vegetable physiology. In addition to publishing an 1880 biography of his father titled "Life and Letters of Charles Darwin", he published the botanical treatises "The Power of Movement in Plants" (1880), "The Practical Physiology of Plants" (1894), "Elements of Botany" (1895), and "Rustic Sounds and Other Studies in Literature and Natural History" (1917). He received a Knighthood in 1913 for his scientific work.
