U.S. Congressman. Born in Valparaiso, Indiana, he graduated from the Culver Military Academy in 1905 and from the University of Michigan, in 1909. He studied law at Harvard University, was admitted to the bar in 1912 and commenced to practice law in Portland, Oregon. During World War I, he served as a Captain in the US Army Air Service section. After the war, he was special deputy district attorney for Multnomah County, Oregon, in 1921. In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth and Seventieth Congresses, serving until his death. While on vacation to San Francisco, he was showing symptoms of a paranoiac when he suddenly ran and jumped into the bay. When he was pulled from the water, he was dead at age 40. Crumpacker had left several notes indicating that he believed he had been murdered by his friends.
