The family of Clarence E. "Bud" Angell is sad to announce that Bud died at Henrico Doctor's Hospital on Sunday, October 3, 2010.
Bud was born in Hinton, West Virginia, in 1922, to William and Myrtle Williams Angell and lived and worked in West Virginia until after his service in World War II. As a Petty Officer aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10), Bud served proudly and faithfully from 1943 throughout many of the pivotal naval actions following the Battle of Midway and returned, with numerous decorations, to marry Doris (Dottie) Hatcher; a marriage they would enjoy for the rest of his life.
Upon moving to Charlottesville, Virginia, where he and Dot lived for 50 years, Bud attended the Jefferson School of Commerce and began his post-war working life, as well as a family that would eventually number five children. Much of his working career was spent as a salesman for the MacGregor Motors Lincoln Mercury dealership, where he succeeded primarily because of the reputation he gained for professionalism, respect for his customers, and, above all, total honesty. But, of all the accomplishments of his long life, it was always his family that gave him the most pride and satisfaction. Among the countless gifts he gave us, his love of music is one of the most enduring.
Bud was a faithful Christian throughout his life and was active most recently in the United Methodist Men at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Short Pump until his health no longer permitted. He served periodically as an usher and always made everyone feel welcome and their attendance appreciated.
Bud is survived by his wife, Dot; his brother, Johnny; his son, Wayne and his wife, Gail; his son, Jerald "Jerry" and his wife, Carole; his son, Michael "Mike"; his daughter, Stephanie "Pepi" Gates and her husband, Terry Gates; his daughter, Beth; his grandson, Daniel "Dan"; his granddaughter, Alison "Ali"; and his grandson, Christopher "Chris" and his wife, Lindsey (who Bud affectionately considered another granddaughter). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Among his last words were how little he feared death but how much he hated being parted from his family. We, his family, concur deeply in that sentiment.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 7, 2010, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 4825 Pouncey Tract Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059. The Rev. David Adkins Sr. will officiate.
Burial at the church cemetery.
