Dr. Turley was most probably interred here since his wife and a couple of their children are buried here.

Dr. Turley was a supporter of Whig party principles, served several terms in the lower house of the Virginia legislature and was elected to the Virginia Senate as the representative from his district. He was said to have been a close friend of Henry Clay and often visited him at his home.

Early in life, Dr. Turley was said to have devoted his life to the practice of medicine, but later, with his brother, purchased a portion of one of the Lord Fairfax grants and built and operated a furnace and forge. He called the plant the Fannie Furnace in honor of his wife.

Dr. Turley became prominent in business as well as political circles in Virginia.

Charles Augustus Turley and his wife, Frances "Fanny" Harness had 11 children. Scroll down to see links that are provided for six of the children's graves. Listed below are the five children whose graves have not been located:

1. SARAH Catherine Turley (1814 - 1850) married Elijah Cunningham on Jan. 9, 1840 in Hardy Co., West VA
2. CHARLES Alexander Turley
born Jan. 6, 1816 in Hardy, VA
died Aug. 4, 1880 in Houston, TX
1st wife: Virginia Guerrant Smith
2nd wife: Sarah Elizabeth Spurier
3. WILLIAM C. Turley born abt 1835
4. SAMUEL Turley born abt 1837
5. JAMES O. Turley born abt 1839

There is some confusion regarding two of Dr. Turley's sons: Charles Alexander Turley born January 6, 1816 and John Alexander Turley born June 1, 1816. Information for Charles’ d.o.b. came from a family tree found on Ancestry.com. John’s d.o.b. came from Ohio Obit Index. If the boys were twins, I am inclined to believe that they were born on June 1.
