Musician, Composer. He was a self-taught pianist and composer, noted for his numerous ragtime and jazz songs. In 1919, he found work as an accompanist for vaudeville shows and started performing in dance bands. From the 1920s to 1940s, he collaborated with artists to include Duke Ellington, Frankie Trumbauer, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Adrian Rollini. He also scored for the film musicals "The Show of Shows" (1929) and "Wake Up and Dream" (1946). His many compositions included "Soliloquy", "Day In-Day Out", "Fools Rush In", "If I Were Sure of You", "Got No Time" and "Don't Worry 'Bout Me". He died at age 73 and was posthumously inducted into the "Song Writer's Hall of Fame" in 1982.
