U.S. Congressman. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, he was successful in mercantile pursuits and served as a member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly, (1849-50). In 1855, he was elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in the rubber trade in New York City and was chief of the bureau of labor statistics of New Jersey, (1878-93). He died at age 78 near Morristown, New Jersey.
