Jennie L. Goodmaster Gerlach, 91, a resident of The Hearth at Gardenside, 173 Alps Road, Branford, died there Oct. 11, 2010. Born in New Haven August 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Pacifico and Lucia Sciarra Mastrobuoni. She was a former resident of Fairbanks, 355 Ferry St., New Haven. She worked as a nurse's aid at the Hospital of St. Raphael for many years prior to her retirement. She was a long time parishioner of St. Francis Church and took great pride in tending The Garden of St. Francis adjacent to the Church. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant. She is survived by one son, Franklin W. (Mary) Gerlach of New Haven; a sister, Evelyn Rubano in Florida; two grandchildren, Eliza Maltby and Joshua Gerlach; and two great grandchildren, Noah and Hannah. Also survived by many nieces and nephews including her God daughter, Andrea Moore of Branford. She was predeceased by three brothers, Nicholas, Ernest and Anthony J. Goodmaster and two sisters, Mary Spinato and Margaret Sewell. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Thursday, Oct. 13th at 9:30. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 9:30.A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Francis Church at 10:00. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Francis Church, 397 Ferry St., New Haven, CT 06513
