New Hartford, Dec. 1.—Stalham W. Sherman died here yesterday after a long and severe illness, in his 41st year.
He was the second son of Hon. Richard C. Sherman and was born in Utica.
He was graduated from Whitestown Seminary and became a civil engineer.
He was engaged on various railroads and public works.
In 1887, he became treasurer and superintendent of the New Hartford Canning Company and held the position at his death.
He was courteous, generous and openhearted. He won friends everywhere.
In politics, Mr. Sherman was a Democrat; though active, he never sought office.
He was chosen by bis neighbors trustee of the village of New Hartford and excise commissioner of the town.
Every public duty was fearlessly met and faithfully fulfilled.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in New Hartford.
Mr. Sherman was twice married, in 1877 to Delia Gale, who died in 1884,
and in November, 1890, to Jennie Gale, who survives him.
He is also survived by his parents,
three brothers, Richard W. , Hon. James S., and Sandford F. Sherman,
and one sister, Mrs. H. J. Cookingham, all of Utica.
