Mrs. Macie Beatrice Welborn Duke, 100, Mitchell-Hollingsworth Annex, Florence, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2002.

Mrs. Duke was born in Hartwell, Ga., on July 30, 1901. She moved to the Liberty Hill community of Franklin County, Ala., at age 4. She married Oscar Wyatt Duke on Sept. 7, 1917, and moved to Waterloo, Ala., in 1919 to begin farming. She and her husband moved to Florence when he went to work at the Florence Post Office.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Donnie McDaniel of Underwood Baptist Church and the Rev. David A. Dorah of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until service time Saturday.

Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mrs. Duke is survived by three sons, Warren C. Duke, Memphis, Tenn., Oscar Welborn Duke, Florence and Jerry Lee Duke, Florence; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Leo Creel, Clyde Holder, Donald Holt, Jerry Whorton, Stephen Duke, Bradley Duke and Michael Duke.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zeno Lindsey, Sam C. Wade, Dr. Gerald Lord, members of the First Baptist Church Dorcas Sunday school class and members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 5.
