Roy McKim was the son of Alfred Hiram McKim and Cora Ellen Fullerton. He married Clara Mable Carney on March 19, 1921 in Bolivar, Polk Co., MO. Roy's younger brother Carl had eyes for Clara first, but Roy won her heart! Clara was the daughter of William H. Carney and Ida Mills. To this union eleven children were born; Juanita Pauline, William Robert, Jack Roy, Edward Eugene, Franklin Dale (d. in childhood), Alfred Kenneth, Leonard Preston (d. as an infant) Pearl Caroline, Ruth Mary, Donna Karen, and Diane Carol.

Roy served his country in W.W.I. He was stationed in Rieler, Germany and drove supplies across France to Germany with a team of horses. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 2, 1919. After a brief trail run in Laramie Co., WY., and Sioux City, IA., Roy and Clara moved to Northern MN. in 1934 and then settled in Blackberry, MN. 1936. Together, the family built the McKim family home and farm. Roy made a living farming and working in the iron mines. He remained on the family farm until his passing.

Roy was my maternal grandfather and a few of the things I remember about him are sitting on his lap while he sat in "his chair", eating tomatoes sprinkled with sugar, Circus Peanut candies, the smell of his pipes and cigars, playing on his tracker, his deep blue eyes, and his daily uniform that consisted of a hat and suspenders. He used to push me in a swing that he made and hung for me in the big tree in the front yard of their house.

My grandpa is buried with my grandma and my two uncles, Franklin and Edward.
