Crofford married Velma Jane McKim on Nov. 28, 1916 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the daughter of Alfred Hiram McKim and Cora Ellen Fullerton. To this union no children were born. Crofford was born in Old Scullyville, OK. He was a self-employed carpenter and cabinetmaker and prior to that he was a machinist with the Standard Oil Corp. of El Segundo. Velma's family still owns pieces of his handcrafted furniturer. Crofford had a great love of baseball and played baseball as a youth.
