Edward was the son of Roy Preston and Clara Mable (Carney) McKim. He never married or had children. Eddie served his country in W.W.II with Company K 35th Infantry. He served as a Military Policeman 677. Medals received were; Army of Occupation Medal Japan, Lapel Button, 2 Overseas Bars, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbons, Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

He moved to California in the 1960s with his brother Alfred. After Eddie found out that he was ill, he returned to live at his parent's farm in Blackberry, Minnesota until his death. He is buried with his parents and brother Franklin who died in childhood.
