Mrs. Elvira Fuller Oviatt, was born in Putney, Vermont, Feb. 16, 1818, and passed away Aug. 30, 1902, aged 84 years, 6 months and 14 days.
From Vermont she removed with her parents to New York and afterward to Ohio, where she was married to Wm. J. Oviatt in 1835, he departing this life in 1868. They emigrated to Illinois in 1852, and came to Wisconsin in 1854, and since that time she has lived in Argyle and vicinity. She joined the Baptist church and though not active in public worship, her home life was religious in the true sense of the word.
Eight of her family survive her. They are Mrs. H. Plakham and H.C. Oviatt, of Goldfield, Iowa, Mrs. Sanford DeVoe and Mrs. Geo. Taylor of Argyle, Mrs. C.F. Westcott, of Redwing, Minn., Mrs. Alex Patterson of Sutton, Neb., J.P. Oviatt of Belmond, Iowa, and Mrs. Wm. Walker of Greenwood, Illinois.
The funeral was held at the house, on Monday at two o'clock conducted by Rev. J.E. Webster and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband who has been sleeping in the old cemetery for thirty-four years.
