FRANCIS M. BURNS

Francis M. Burns, of Harrison passed away at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Clare on Saturday, December 9, 2006. He was 91.
Mr. Burns was born on December 28, 1914 in Saginaw to Frank and Laura (Pruden) Burns. He graduated Alma High School in 1931. He served in the United States Army first as an enlisted Sergeant then as a 1st Lieutenant in the Western Pacific, Philippines, and Ryukyus. He later married Marie A. Olson on June 2, 1946 at Moose Lake, Minnesota. She preceded him in death in 1996. He worked as an engineer of bridges and buildings for the railroad industry, mainly in Ann Arbor for 43 ½ years until retiring in 1975. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and was a life member of the National Trapping Association. He was also a member of the John J. Carton Masonic Lodge 436 and the American Legion 404, both in Harrison.
He is survived by his daughter-in law; Stephanie Burns; his grandchildren: Andrea Burns and Steven Burns; and a cousin: Jerry Boss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, his son Grant Burns, and his brother Merlin Burns.
Arrangements are being made by the Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home in Marion. The service will be private at the family's request.
