Also known as "Emperor Taisho," he was the 123rd Emperor of Japan. Following his father's death, he became emperor in July of 1912. Due to failing health, he retired from public life and was succeeded by his eldest son, Crown Prince Hirohito, as emperor on November 25, 1921.
