William Ellsworth Crowe came to Benton County, Arkansas from Belmont, Ohio. He and his first wife, Susan B. Meyers, had two children.
He and his second wife, Mariah Harrison, had 5 children. Mariah and William are both buried in the Russell Cemetery.
Mariah came from Indiana where her family raised tobacco crops.
William's first wife died giving birth to their 2nd child, a son, Wallace in 1865. Both children were raised by their maternal Grandmother. In 1880 or 1881 William moved his two children, son, Wallace, and his daughter, Maggie Belle Vanhorn and her husband George. They all moved from South Bethany, Indiana to Gravette, Arkansas by covered wagon.

Another pioneer is gone. William Crowe died February 5th, 1925, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G.N. Vanhorn, west of town. He was born in Belmont, Ohio August 18, 1838. He reached the age of 86 years, 5 months and 13 days.
Mr. Crowe united with the Christian church in 1865. He was married to Susan Meyers in 1861. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Maggie Belle Vanhorn of Gravette, and Wallace Crowe of Anderson, MO. His wife died in 1865. Mr. Crowe was married again in 1871 to Mariah Harrion. (the obit says Harrion but we have Harrison in handwriting). To this union were born five children, four girls and one boy. Alice Cook of Springdale, Arkansas (this is Mary Alice Cook who married Henry Charles Cook). Olive Cowart and Pearl Kelley of Gravette; John Crowe of Hiwasse, and Iva Manos, deceased. Mr. Crowe has been making his home with his children. He leaves 48 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by W.A. McDonald on Friday and interment followed at the Russell Cemetery.

Hi, I came upon this individual who is a very distant relative and noticed that the recorded birth is 23 Aug 1838, but the obit states he was born 18 Aug 1838. Thought you would like to know.
