William was born the son of Joseph Johnson Sr and Abigail Wright. His mother and older brother Joseph Jr (32nd Governor of Virginia 1852-1855) walked to Bridgeport from New Jersey. William first married my first cousin, five times removed, Olive Waldo, on 25 July of 1814, they had thirteen children, including Waldo Porter Johnson. William then married Rebecca Wheeler, on 19 February of 1856, they had four children.
