Aged 94 years

In the spring of 1855 Isaac and Mary Barrick with several of their children left Columbiana, Ohio and started their journey to Minnesota. They were part of a group of Ohio families which includes Rev. William Thompson, a minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod in Stark and Columbiana Counties. The group left by steamboat from Wellsville, Ohio and traveled down the Ohio River to the Mississippi River, then traveled north on the Mississippi, landing finally at Hastings, Mn. The river journey took 16 days. Unfortunately, at the time of their arrival at Hastings several members of the party, including two of isaac's daughters had taken ill. Lucretia Barrick and her sister Barbara Ann died shortly after this arrival, and were buried in Hastings. Rev Thompson included some details of the journey as part of his remembrances which were included in the book: A History of Rice and Steel Counties. From Hastings , The Barrick's traveled west to the settlement at East Praireville near Faribault.
