Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Son of sixth President of the Church, Joseph F. Smith, and named after his martyred grandfather Hyrum, Patriarch to the Church and brother of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

He served two missions to Europe, his second from 1913-1916 as president of the European Mission headquartered in Liverpool, England. He died unexpectedly at the age of forty-five of complications from acute appendicitis.
