On May 23, 1942, Martha married Capt. Woodrow Wilson in Philadelphia. After a one day honeymoon, her new husband returned to his position aboard an American Hawaiian Steamship and she returned by train to her Thomaston home. For 65 years, the couple made their home here in the same house.
Mrs. Wilson later served as care-giver for her mother, father and sister, Florence during their declining years.
For many years she was a memner of Thomaston Baptist Church and served more than 33 years as Treasurer.
This past Monday, December 10th, she celebrated her 95th birthday with family and friends at the Homestead in Cushing.
Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Whitehill, Norman Whitehill, Sr., two sisters, Florence Whitehill, Phyllis Hunt, and a nephew, Clifton Hunt. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Capt. Woodrow Wilson of Thomaston and Cushing; one sister, Joyce V. Adams and her husband Corydon of Thomaston; one nephew, Norman O. Whitehill, Jr. of Waldoboro; six nieces, Joan Powell of Rockland, Patricia Sullivan of Camden, Barbara Blum of Thomaston, Charlena Mank of Vermont, Sylvia Crane of Port Clyde, and Rebecca Gadbois of Biddeford as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
