PVT US ARMY - WORLD WAR II - Awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

FRIENDSHIP – Frank B. Conary, Jr., 86 died unexpectedly, Monday, October 6, 2003 at his home here. Born at Deer Isle, July 9, 1917, he was the son of Frank B., Sr. and Vesta M. Eaton Conary. Educated in local schools he was a 1935 graduate of Deer Isle High School.

A World War II U.S. Army Veteran, he served in the Pacific and European Theaters. Wounded at the Battle of Bunda, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. While home on leave, on June 9, 1942, he married Phyllis M. Cushman at Deer Isle. The couple has resided all their married life at Friendship.


Mr. Conary worked several years as a lobsterman and several years at Bath Iron Works. In more recent years he worked as sternman with Stillman Havener out of Friendship.


For many years he was an active member of the Advent Christian Church of Friendship, where he served as head usher and enjoyed transporting children to Sunday School.


He was pre-deceased by one brother Herbert W. Conary. Besides his wife of Friendship, Mr. Conary is survived by one son, Reverend Warren Conary and his wife Sandra of Lynn, MA; a sister, Olive C. Rice of Deer Isle; three grandchildren and their spouses, Rochelle and Joshua Randall of Hampton, VA, Ryan and Amy Conary of Somersworth, NH, Rosana and Lionel Dubuisson of Lynn, MA; six great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Rebekah, Caleb, Ethan, Ashley, Tyler as well as several nieces and nephews.


Interment will be in Harbor View Cemetery, Friendship. (Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins on-line)
