U.S. Senator. Moving with her parents to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1901, she married U.S. Senator Huey Pierce Long in 1913. In 1936 she was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband, Huey P. Long, serving until 1937. She was the third woman to ever serve as a U.S. Senator, and the first ever from Louisiana. Declining to run for re-election, she retired from public life. Her son Russell B. Long was also a U.S. Senator. In 2014 he was posthumously inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum Hall of Fame.
