LUCINDA ELIZABETH HOLMSLEY, daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth (Cummings) Holmesley, was born in Comanche, Texas. She was the granddaughter of Burrell and Lucinda (Wagnon) Homesley and James and Susan (Tate) Cunningham, two of the pioneer families who settled in Comanche County in the early 1850's. On September 14, 1887, she married John Willis Johnson, a successful rancher and sheriff of Tom Green County. She bore him three children, John Willis, Jr. (1890), Ruth H. (1892), and Mary Elizabeth (1895). Before his death on November 4, 1923, John Willis, Sr. had accumulated more than 90,000 acres of land. In 1927, Lucinda established the J Willis Johnson Foundation in his memory. She died on October 2, 1938 in San Angelo.
