Marvin walked on into the arms of his ancestors on January 24, 2003. Home, home at last! No more pain! Born in Lander, WY on September 15, 1921, he came to Fort Lewis, WA in 1941 with the 115th Cavalry Unit with which he served almost five years, one year of which was overseas. He was an automobile mechanic by trade, first working at Hoskins Automotive before going to Mallon Motors, where he worked for 25 years. He passed away at his home in Tacoma, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind, to mourn his passing, his wife of 60 years, Cecelia; his son Dean, wife Cheri Carpenter of Spanaway, WA; his daughter Susan Gerlach (Gary Mitchel) of Tacoma; granddaughters Talena Gerlach, Nicole Carpenter and Megan Carpenter; one grandson, Cristopher Gerlach; and his faithful dog, Jenni Lynn. He also leaves three brothers, Kenneth Carpenter of Lake Havasu, AZ, Lewis Carpenter of Lander, WY and Joe Carpenter of Casper, WY. One brother, Clyde Carpenter, predeceased him. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Parkland and the D.A.V. Viewing will be held Thursday, January 30, 2002, 4:00-8:00 pm at Dryer Mortuary. Funeral service will be Friday, January 31, 2003, 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church at 12115 South Park Ave. Burial will be at the family plot at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Franciscan Hospice people for their kindness. Remembrances may be made to Tacoma Rescue Mission.
