Sr. Thérèse-Emmanuel joined the Order in Trinidad, and spent most of her life as a Corpus Christi Carmelite in the West Indies and in Britain, with a stint in Colombia, South America.
A trained nurse, Sister was one of the first principals of the Corpus Christi College in Diego Martin in the 1950's. She was also nurse at St. Jude's School in Belmont and at the Christ Child Convalescent Home in Diego Martin, and was twice superior at L'Hospice Carmel on Observatory Street in Port of Spain during the periods 1967 and 1970, and again between 1984 and 1990. During the 1970's she was prioress of Shorne Carmel (St. Katherine's) in Kent, England which operated centres of care for the elderly and for children.
At the time of her passing she was a member of the Corpus Christi Carmelite Community in Leicester, England, the town in which the Congregation was established in 1908. In Leicester, Sr Therese-Emmanuel was engaged in a number of apostolates, including acting as chaplain to the Third Order Chapter. She was well known to many lay Carmelites both in Trinidad and Tobago and in the UK, all of whom held her in great affection.
Sr. Therese-Emmanuel's funeral service was held at the St. Thomas More parish church in Knighton, Leicester, on December 3. Her body was interred at Kirby Muxloe, a small Leicestershire village, on a very cold December's morning, amidst a blanket of snow, alongside her other Carmelite Sisters.
