MRS. POPPLETON DIES FROM HEART TROUBLE

Aged Woman Was Ill Only an Hour at Her Apartments at the Winona.

She Was Active Citizen of Omaha Since Early '50s, in Hospital Work.

Mrs. Caroline Sears Poppleton, widow of Andrew J. Poppleton, pioneer Omahan, died yesterday afternoon at her residence, apartment 5, the Winona, after an illness of less than an hour, due to heart trouble. Mrs. Poppleton was 82 years of age and had lives in Omaha since 1854. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Shannon and Mrs. M. L. Learned; a sister, Mrs. A. N. Ferguson, this city; a brother, Stillman Sears, Long Pine, and a grandson, William Sears Poppleton, son of the late William Sears Poppleton.

She was born in Canton, N. Y., came with her parents to Council Bluffs and was married to Mr. Poppleton in 1855.

Mrs. Poppleton was an active member of social and church circles in this city from the ante-bellum days in the early '50s until the time of her death. She was for twenty-three years secretary and treasurer of the Bishop Clarkson Memorial hospital and was a trustee for over thirty years. For nearly half a century she was active in work of Trinity cathedral.

Immediately after her marriage Mrs. Poppleton came to Omaha, stopping at the old Douglas house on Thirteenth street. She and her husband later began housekeeping on the site of the old Unites States National bank building at Twelfth and Farnam streets. They later moved to their own home at Fifteenth and Capitol avenue. Subsequently they lived near Fort Omaha, then at Nineteenth and Dodge streets, where the younger daughter was born. Later they built their own home out on Sherman avenue, where they lives for thirty-one years.

As the wife of one of the founders and leading attorneys of Nebraska her life was full of activity and helpfulness, she taking every opportunity to do her part in civil, social and religious work.

Her funeral will be held from Trinity Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in Prospect Hill cemetery.

MANY ATTEND FUNERAL OF MRS. POPPLETON

The funeral of Mrs. Caroline Sears Poppleton, Omaha pioneer, who died Friday afternoon after an illness of less than an hour, was held yesterday afternoon from the Trinity cathedral at 3 o'clock.

Dean Tancock delivered the sermon. Many of Mrs. Poppleton's friends and acquaintances of the past half century gathered to pay their last respects to a lady who was respected and admired by all who knew her.

Interment was at Prospect Hill cemetery.
