U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Boones University School in 1910, from the law department of the University of Southern California in 1914, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Fresno, California. During World War I, he served in France as a Second Lieutenant in the 690th Aero Squadron, U.S. Army Air Corps (1917-19). After the war, he was district attorney of Fresno County (1917-23) and served as a member of the board of directors of the California Veterans' Home in 1932. He was elected in 1935 as a Republican to the Seventy-fourth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1949. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 65.
